Former U.S. Rep. Brad Carson, Boren's predecessor who gave up the congressional seat for an unsuccessful run for U.S. Senate, said Tuesday he intends to run for the vacant seat next year.

"This obviously came up quite suddenly,'' Carson said, adding he plans to talk to his wife and make a formal announcement later.

"It is our intention to go back and fight for the 2nd District in Washington.''
